John Aubrey was elected Sheriff of Jefferson County, Kentucky  in November, 1998.  He took office on January 4, 1999 with a new, handpicked staff of law enforcement professionals.  Since then, He has been re-elected and his agency has achieved Accreditation and been re-accredited for a second five-years. 

Prior to running for Sheriff, John  served 28 years with the Louisville Division of Police, rising through the ranks and serving in many functions of the department before retiring as the acting Chief of Police with the rank of  Colonel.  He also served 32 years with the United States Army Reserve and again, retired with the rank of Colonel.

Sheriff Aubrey holds both a Bachelors degree and a Masters degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Louisville.  He is  a graduate of the United States Army Command and General Staff College, of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and of the FBI National Academy.
