Sheriff Jim Karnes



Franklin County, Ohio's 50th Sheriff Jim Karnes began his law enforcement career with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy in the Corrections Division in 1963. During his career, he has served the people of Franklin County in virtually every supervisory post and division within the office. He has served under five different Sheriff administrations and was himself elected Sheriff in 1992.


During his career, Sheriff Karnes has been active and served in leadership positions in many law enforcement and community organizations including: he served as President of the FBI National Academy Associates; as a member of the United States Department of Justice, Southern Ohio District - Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee; as member of the Technical Advisory 9-1-1 Committee; as a member of the Board of Directors of both the National Sheriffs' Association and of the Buckeye State Sheriffs' Association; as a member of the Corrections Technology Advisory Council of the National Institute of Justice; and as a member of the Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee of the United States Department of Justice, Southern Ohio District.


     Sheriff Karnes attended the FBI  National Academy 100th Session, the FBI National Executive Institute 18th Session and the Southern Police Institute.
