Kern County Loses Sheriff’s Deputy Phillip Campas In Shooting

A domestic violence hostage incident in Wasco ended in the deaths of five people, including a Kern County Sheriff’s deputy, during the weekend. And one of those shot dead was one of Kern County Sheriff’s Office’s own.

It is with great sadness that we share that the Kern County Sheriff’s Office lost Deputy Phillip Campas, who was shot and killed during a barricade at a home yesterday evening.

Deputies had initially responded to the home for reports of a shooting at about 1:00 pm. A subject inside fired at the deputies and then barricaded himself in the home, prompting the agency’s SWAT team to be deployed. At about 3:00 pm the subject opened fire on members of the SWAT team as they approached the home. Deputy Campas and another deputy were struck by the gunfire. They were both transported to a local hospital where Deputy Campas succumbed to his wounds. The subject was shot and wounded when he exchanged more shots with the SWAT team at about 6:30 pm.

Please keep Deputy Campas’ family, friends, and colleagues in Kern County in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with this difficult loss.

Please help us support the Campas family by donating any amount you can afford. All donations go directly to the Campas family: https://porac.org/…/deputy-phillip-campas-memorial-fund/
