MCSA Statement: Pinellas County Deputy Michael Hartwick

On behalf of the Executive Board, I write to express MCSA’s deepest sympathy to our Executive Board member, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, for the passing of Deputy Michael Hartwick who passed away due to a hit and run accident in a construction zone last night. Deputy Hartwick was hit with a front-end loader while standing outside of his patrol car directing traffic. The construction worker who struck Deputy Hartwick fled the scene but has been taken into custody at this time.

Deputy Hartwick was 51 years old and had served the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for 19 years. He is survived by his mother and two adult sons.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheriff Gualtieri, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and the friends and family of Deputy Hartwick.

Stay safe,

Megan E. Noland
